Laser Cleaning Machines
CORMAK laser cleaning machines – available in both continuous wave and pulsed versions – are modern solutions for fast and effective removal of contaminants from metal, non-metal and wooden surfaces. They enable non-invasive cleaning of machine components, moulds, tools and precision parts, removing rust, paint, surface deposits, resin and greasy residues without the risk of damaging the base material. This makes them ideal wherever precision, repeatability and process safety are essential in surface preparation.
How laser cleaning works – technology basics
A laser cleaning machine removes contaminants through the process of laser ablation, meaning the evaporation or detachment of the contamination layer under the influence of short, high-energy light pulses. The laser energy is absorbed primarily by rust, paint, oxides or carbon deposits, while the underlying substrate – metal, stone or plastic – reflects a significant portion of the beam. As a result, contaminants are removed while the base surface remains intact. In pulsed systems, energy is delivered in very short, controlled doses, allowing precise cleaning even of delicate components. Lasers operating in continuous wave mode generate a constant beam, which is well suited to rapid removal of thicker contamination layers. Although the operating principles differ, both modes offer high efficiency and eliminate the need for abrasives or chemicals.
Laser cleaning machines – one solution, many applications
Laser cleaning machines are used across many industries where precision, substrate protection and high process efficiency are critical. In the automotive sector, they are used for rust removal, surface preparation before welding and mould cleaning. In injection moulding and toolmaking industries, laser cleaning enables fast, non-invasive removal of carbon deposits and residues from production processes. In energy and aerospace sectors, the technology is used to clean structural components, turbines and assemblies requiring a high level of cleanliness. In welding applications, lasers are ideal for edge preparation, oxide removal and weld seam cleaning. Thanks to this wide range of applications, laser technology has become a versatile tool for modern manufacturing and service facilities.
Depending on process requirements, customers can choose:
- continuous wave laser cleaning machines – ideal for fast, high-throughput cleaning of large surfaces,
- pulsed laser cleaning machines – designed for precise, selective cleaning of high-value components, moulds, dies and tools.
Our laser cleaning machines enable, among others:
- removal of corrosion and surface deposits from machine components, gears, turbine blades and structural elements,
- degreasing and surface preparation prior to further processing stages (e.g. painting, welding, cladding),
- removal of old paint coatings and paint residues without affecting the material structure,
- cleaning of welds, screw drives, moulds and castings, including parts with complex geometries.
Materials and surfaces suitable for laser cleaning
Laser cleaning machines are suitable for a wide range of materials, making them applicable in both heavy industry and precision manufacturing processes. Laser ablation technology allows effective removal of contaminants from steel, aluminium, brass, copper and cast iron surfaces without the risk of damaging the metal structure.
Lasers are also effective for cleaning casting moulds, tools, welds and structural components. In conservation applications, they enable contact-free cleaning of stone, concrete and brick, while in industrial environments they remove contamination from painted, oxidised and oil-covered surfaces. As a result, a single technology can replace multiple traditional cleaning methods while offering greater precision and repeatability.
Benefits of CORMAK laser cleaning machines
CORMAK laser cleaning machines operate without physical contact, eliminating the risk of mechanical surface damage and minimising thermal impact on the material. The absence of chemicals and abrasive media results in a more environmentally friendly process, reduced waste and easier workstation organisation. Precise adjustment of parameters (power, pulse energy, frequency, scanning speed) allows the process to be tailored to the type of contamination and the desired surface effect on materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium and special materials.
Using CORMAK laser cleaning machines results in:
- shorter surface preparation times,
- higher quality and repeatability of processing,
- reduced operating costs compared to traditional methods (sandblasting, shot blasting, chemical cleaning).
By choosing CORMAK laser cleaning machines, you are investing in proven industrial solutions that increase the efficiency and quality of cleaning and surface preparation processes.
